Tampa,Florida has voted to allow digital billboards- but in a very limited way. As part of settling a year-long lawsuit with Clear Channel Outdoor and CBS Outdoor, the city voted 5-2 to allow each company to erect no more than 6 digital signs in Tampa.

Council Chairman Tom Scott said "given the budgetary constraints we’re in,I’d much rather those dollars go to children and to parks rather than give it to attorneys and courts".

While many council member expressed regrets that they were allowing the digital signs to go up,they are still fewer in number than the 36 units that were originally sought by the two outdoor companies.
